Subject: [Aces] Fw: Windows 10, End of Life - Transition to Windows 11
Good afternoon,
I hope this message finds everyone well. I am writing to inform about an important update regarding all NMSU computers. As you may be aware, Microsoft will be ending support for Windows 10 in mid-October 2025. In light of this, it is imperative that we begin planning the transition to Windows 11.
To ensure a smooth transition and continued security and functionality of our systems, we need to upgrade all computers to Windows 11. This will involve assessing our current hardware to identify any machines that are not compatible with Windows 11 and planning for their replacement or upgrade. The College of ACES is in good shape, there are a good number of computers that have Windows 11 already. Any computer systems that are not on Windows 11 by Fall 2025 will be removed from the network and will not have any internet access (NMSU ARP 15.75).
We recommend evaluating systems sooner than later so we can ensure the systems can upgrade to Windows 11. If systems cannot be upgraded, replacement systems will need to be purchased in place of outdated ones. There is still time to order computer systems before the end of this fiscal year. Alternatively, we recommended budgeting for necessary replacement systems for the beginning of the next fiscal year. This timeline will give us the necessary buffer to address any unforeseen issues that may arise during the upgrade process.
Please note, you cannot purchase machines from BestBuy, Amazon, B&H, etc. as the consumer-grade machines sold at these vendors will not be able to access most NMSU resources, nor can we support them. All computer systems must be purchased through an IT department. We need to ensure that all systems are enterprise-level systems with the proper equipment.
ACES IT has a list of computer systems that are on Windows 10, so we will be assessing the computers to ensure they can upgrade properly. To inquire about scheduling a time to upgrade your computer or to reach out about purchasing a new machine, please contact aces_help@nmsu.edu. This will allow us to work with you most efficiently. Please be patient as we work through the lists and get things scheduled and set up.
Please let me know if you have any questions or require further information. We will continue to provide updates and additional details as we move forward with this upgrade.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Thank you,
Marcus Krohn
