Work-Fos-Ag
Training of Next Generation Workforce for Smart Food Science and Agricultural Technology in the Internet of Things Era (WorkFoS-Ag)
ACES IT's role in this grant is to provide Wireless Broadband and Wireless LAN to remote areas in three Agriculture Science Center (ASCs). Each ASC has its own unique set of challenges. For this project, we would like to focus on two aspects: localized and broadband network infrastructures. My team has spent the last couple of months trying to pieces together information from existing infrastructure and previously planned infrastructure to produce options where there are no options.
Broadband Internet Service Providers (ISP), servicing these rural areas, are limited and offer poor service. Expanding other ISP networks to include these locations would involve running fiber lines throughout valleys, mountains, train tracks, streets, and canals. After reviewing their internal network infrastructures, we can expand each localized area network (LAN) to support a wireless localized area network (WLAN). To support precision agriculture, we’ll need to expand the new WLAN throughout fields or ranch using broadband wireless.
