Visitors answer four questions on a touchscreen. The kiosk scores every NMSU program against those answers and shows the best three.
match() scores every program in PROGRAMS (59 original plus 24 added in Phase 2, 83 in total). The points are:
| Answer | Points |
|---|---|
| Interest equals the program's area | +12 (or +1 for everything if "unsure") |
| Level equals the program's level | +7 (or +1 if "any") |
| Place fits: online program, Las Cruces program, or a non-Las-Cruces campus program for "near" | +6 (or +1 if "any") |
| "Near" and the program is at this county's mapped campus | +3 |
| Audience tweak: adult with online/hybrid +3, transfer with bachelor's +2, veteran with non-grad +1, parent with bachelor's +1 | +1 to +3 |
Each score then gets Math.random() * 0.4 added. Scores are integers, so the jitter only breaks ties. The top 3 become the "best match" and two alternates. Interest outweighs level, and level outweighs place. A program can score 18 or 19 on two answers and still be shown, which is how a mismatched level can appear without any warning.
Change the answers. Each bar segment shows the points a program earned from one answer. The top three rows are what a visitor would see.
